Mosaic Care & Display FAQ

Mosaic Care & Display FAQ

Where should I display my mosaic?

Our mosaics are handmade on wooden cutouts using broken china, broken glassware, glass beads, and glass tiles. Because the base is wood, we recommend displaying your piece inside because none of these pieces have sealant on them and they can't withstand outdoor conditions.  The wood and ceramics would separate. Whether a specific piece suits indoor— please contact us before purchasing if you need to confirm suitability for a particular environment. Outdoor mosaics are prepared on a different surface.

Can my mosaic be left outside?

The wood base used in our mosaics is not inherently waterproof or weather-treated. Exposure to rain, humidity, or freezing temperatures could damage the wood, adhesive, or surface materials over time. We recommend keeping mosaics under a covered porch or sheltered area if displayed outdoors, and bringing them inside during freezing temperatures, heavy rain, or extended wet weather.

How do I hang my mosaic?

Many of our mosaics come with a ribbon hanger attached to the wooden cutout. Sometime I provide a 3M adhesive strip as an additional hanging option. Check your specific product listing or the back of your piece to see which hanging method is included. Always follow the weight guidelines on any 3M product used.

How do I clean my mosaic?

To clean your mosaic, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid soaking the piece, using abrasive cleaners, or scrubbing the grout lines, as this could loosen tiles or damage the wood base. Do not submerge the mosaic in water.

How should I handle my mosaic?

Mosaics are made with broken china, glassware, and glass tiles, which can have sharp edges on the reverse side or along the grout lines. Handle your piece carefully — especially around the edges and back — and keep out of reach of young children.

Will the colors fade over time?

China, glass beads, and glass tiles are generally colorfast materials. However, prolonged direct sunlight may affect any surface over time. We recommend avoiding extended direct sun exposure when possible to keep your mosaic looking its best.
